"We Care for Young People in Science"
Aims
Educating future successful scientists in cardiovascular biomedicine is central to the mission of the UGCVR. Its main graduate school programmes focus on the “Biological Basis of Vascular Medicine” and “Heart, Lung and Blood Vessels” for doctoral studies. The programmes are embedded in the university’s Graduate School for the Life Sciences and a PhD – MD/PhD programme of the medical faculties. Admission is international, and teaching is carried out in the English language.
Research
The common goal of the 12 internationally known research groups collaborating under the roof of the UGCVR is to unravel the molecular and cellular causes of the main cardiovascular diseases – myocardial infarction, heart failure, and atherosclerosis. Research is carried out in experimental laboratories and clinical research facilities equipped with state-of-the-art technology. The translational science approach of the UGCVR very successfully combines the forces of molecular basic science and applied clinical research.
Teaching
The interdisciplinary, concisely structured graduate programmes of the UGCVR are centered around the main areas of scientific excellence in cardiovascular research. We support early acquisition of skills needed for a professional career in science. Students’ projects are embedded in larger research networks, which means that they have the dual advantage of teamwork experience and project support.
Application
The graduate programmes are announced internationally at regular intervals (see News). Admission is based on a selection procedure evaluating the merits obtained from Master’s studies or equivalent university programmes.
